Peter Kappel Theil
Peter Kappel Theil is senior scientist at Aarhus University in Denmark and Adjunct Professor at Sichuan Agricultural University, China. He has worked more than 20 years with focus on sow and piglet nutrition. In his PhD, he focused on energy and protein metabolism of sows, and then he did a post doc where he spent part of the time at University of Illinois with Professor Walter Hurley. That inspired him to focus on development and function of the mammary glands. During the last 12-13 years, most attention has been paid to nutritional impact on colostrum and milk production, that is sow yield, piglet intake, and composition but also how nutrients are being prioritized and utilized within the sow body. Ultimately, projects focus on understanding how piglet survival and their growth may be enhanced.
