Lene Juul Pedersen

Lene Juul Pedersen is a professor in animal welfare and precision livestock farming and head of the research group of Animal behavior and Stress Biology at the Dept. of Animal Sciences, Aarhus University, Denmark. She has a long career as a researcher in applied animal behavioral science. She has studied the impact of the physical and social environment on pig welfare with a strong focus on sow housing and neonatal piglet mortality. Stress, detrimental behaviour, and deviating behavioural patterns have been investigated to understand causal mechanism and consequences for production and welfare. State of art knowledge on pig behavior and welfare are continuously used in R&D projects in collaboration with authorities and industry partners to developed more welfare friendly housing and  management procedures for pigs.
